There are so many advantages to grilling with propane. One of the great things about BBQ propane grills is how customizable they are. They also heat up quickly, provide precise temperature control, and are easy to clean. Additionally, there are different types of grills, so one is sure to suit your tastes and needs.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the decisions you’ll need to make when choosing a propane grill so that you buy the right grill for you.

Built-in vs Freestanding

When you come to Briles Oil & Gas, you can choose between a freestanding or a built-in grill.

Built-in Grills: Are a high-end option for outdoor cooking and are very much what they sound like—units installed in an outdoor kitchen island.

Freestanding Grills: Are probably the most common grill you’ll see in someone’s backyard.

Whichever grill you choose, it should be capable of handling the volume of people you expect to host. That brings us to what size grill you need.

Grill Size

What size grill you need depends on how many people you’ll generally be cooking for. The other number you need to know is the area of primary cooking space in square inches. The primary cooking space is just what it sounds like. It doesn’t include any side burners, warming stations, etc.

When you’re unsure about which size grill to choose, err on the size of having more cooking space versus less. You want a grill that will allow you to cook any meal in the minimum amount of time. We recommend rounding up to the nearest hundred square feet when making your calculations.

Number of People Grill Size (in sq. inches)
1 to 3 people 360 sq. in.
4 to 5 people 400 sq. in.
6 to 7 people 500 sq. in.
8+ people 600 sq. in. (or larger)
